I got an Email the other day informing me that I had been successful in my application for an ‘Australian Volunteers For International Development‘ position based in Fiji. The job isn’t 100 percent guaranteed as yet, I have to pass all my medicals and attend the training in Melbourne in Early May in order to be allowed to go but I see no real reason why I would fail any of the tests I have to have.

I’ve spent the last week getting piles of paperwork together for doctors appointments and visa applications etc. I’ll be based in Lautoka which is on the West coast, not far from Nadi (Nandi), the home of the international airport. Lautoka is Fiji’s second largest city and is on the opposite side of the big island to Suva, the capital city.

Viti Levu map  I’ll be working with Mix FM. From what I hear their tower took a beating in the cyclone and needed repairs but the studios themselves and everyone involved is OK.  My idea is starting now to create a journal of my  experience in getting ready, landing and then getting on with the job. Who knows the audio I collect in this process might even make up some sort of radio doco that I put together when I return to Australia.
